Here are some pictures of a part of Japaense custom for a new year known as Kagami Mochi.

Kagami Mochi is dedicated to the Divine in ritual events or at home in the New Year.

"Kagamimochi" is two rounds of mochi with an dried persimmons on top.

"Kagami" means a mirror and Mochi means a rice cake. The rice cake is shaped like a flat round mirror and that's the reason why it is called "Kagami mochi".

In Japan, we show it to wish a happy new yaer. ANd then, on January 11, we slice it and boil them in vegetable soup and eat. The day is called Kagami-Biraki. We hoping to be healthy and happy throughout the year.
